Greenway Park
|
Greenway park can be access from many locations along fanno
creek. The best area for skating is between Hall blvd and Scholls Ferry
Rd. A series of winding trails takes you through the 86 acre park. The
park is dotted with smooth basketball courts great for skate dancing, roller hockey or
practicing some new moves. For a little more challenge or adventure you can pick up the Fanno Creek Trail, that starts at Denney and 217 and winds down through Greenway and into downtown Tigard. Future Plans take the Fanno Creek Greenway Trail Project through 5 cities and three counties. Read More Here. Proposed trails and completed quadrants |

Black Butte Ranch
|
Smooth winding trails through miles of beautiful country on Black Butte
Ranch. You'll enjoy skating the extensive rolling
pathways through out the resort. I was impressed with the path surface and
variety, the view was spectacular and I recommend skating Black Butte Ranch.
It would be a fun skate trip!

Gresham, Oregon |
||
Spring Water Trail |
There's a
paved section of the Springwater Trail through Gresham that is several miles long. (The
rest of it's a gravel bike path.) This used to be a railroad bed, so it's flat, level,
straight, and smooth. Beware of the little bridges made
of railroad ties, they have large gaps and aren't skater friendly. You can access
the paves section in Gresham, a paved parking area with equestrian trailer accommodations
and a covered picnic shelter is located at SE Hogan Road, immediately north of the trail.
Parking is also available at Main City Park.

Eugene Bike Trail System |
West of Eugene, the Eugene bike trail system has to rival the best in the world and is definitely worth a trip from Portland. This new two-and-a-half mile extension wends its way through prime prairie wetland. It offers the song of birds and a spectacular view of the Cascades, including the Three Sisters. Not to mention a beautiful cement trail, perfect for skating. It is not a challenging route, but it is perfect for stretching out. If you start at 15th and Jefferson and skate to the end and back you'll have about a 13 mile skate. With spurs and connectors you can easily double or triple that in spectacular fashion
Fern Ridge Trail Extension & |
Visit a Photo Gallery of Larry Robbins. Larry lives and skates in Eugene, and has wandered up to Portland on occasion to skate with the PISA skaters. Larry invites everyone to explore Eugene's best skate spots. Check out the Eugene Bike and Trail System Maps and routes for directions.

Dawson Creek Park
|
Out in Hillsboro, there's Dawson Creek Park, which is off Shute Rd. (Take the Helvetia Rd. exit off US-26, and go south a mile or so.) It's got nice paths around some duck ponds, with some gentle hills and curves, the pathways run between several industrial complexes with connecting roadways, sidewalks and large parking lots for those liking wide open areas.

McCall Waterfront Park
|
It extends from the Marquam
Bridge down to the Steel Bridge and crosses the river where you can continue the loop on
the east side down to the Hawthorne Bridge. North of the Steel Bridge, the trail
continues past the condos to the old River Queen parking lot half way between the Broadway
and Fremont Bridges. That's a really nice stretch, especially around sunset, I think. If
you go out onto the sidewalk north of that, you soon come to another short stretch of
smooth walkway behind the new office buildings, leading all the way to the Fremont Bridge. |

I-205 Trail |
There's a
trail that runs parallel to I-205 from the Columbia River south about ten miles, ending a
little past the Clackamas Promenade. It's a good workout, since there are some significant
hills, but while it's got some real variety, it's not that scenic--unless you consider a
freeway scenic. You can actually follow this further north across the I-205 bridge,
between the two sides of the highway.

Marine Drive Path
|
There's a trail along much of Marine Drive. It's broken into several pieces, but the longest one runs from just east of I-205 (where it joins the I-205 trail) to just west of the airport. It's flat, smooth, and pretty level. On a hot summer day, it's usually five to ten degrees cooler right next to the river. If you are up for a good work out, you will soon discover the head wind along the river will usually greet you on your skate back to the car.

Burnt Bridge Creek Greenway |
I finally found a nice nice nice brand spankin new trail near the (rather nasty and unskate-able) Burnt Bridge Creek Greenway. Take Mill Plain west off I-205, then about 3 miles later turn right on Devine and the parking lot is on your right about ? half a mile up? Go EAST on the trail (don't cross Devine and head west). It's a little hilly, and I'm not sure how far it extends (I don't skate very far), but did I mention it is NICE! Smooooooth, nice scenery (well, it's under the powerlines, but it's not terrible), peaceful. Give it a try! -Jenny Go EAST on the trail (don't cross Devine and head west). Discovery Trail - Leverich Park to Bagley Park The hard-surfaced, shared-use trail connecting these two community parks begins at the NW corner of Leverich Park. It runs along and through the forests and grasslands of Arnold Park, crossing St. Johns Road and following Nicholson Road to Bagley Park.

A beautiful paved pathway starts just before you reach Vancouver Lake and ends up at the Columba River. Mill Plain Blvd East as far as you can go and watch for signs to the lake.

The Vancouver Waterfront
|
A wide sidewalk goes from
the Doubletree Hotel just west of the I-5 bridge, east as far as Beaches Restaurant. If
you go out onto the street at that point (which has very little traffic after hours) and
skate east to the Water Resources complex, the street ends and the paved path picks up
again, at Pier Park going almost to I-205.
From Portland go I5 North By the way, there's a large smooth
concrete plaza behind the Doubletree, overlooking the river, which is great for skating
on.

The series of Parks along
Pringle Creek is delightful, if a little tricky at times, and will take you from South
